John and Helen met in the kitchens at Buckingham Palace in December 2003, when Helen joined John and became part of the team of Royal Chefs, cooking for the Queen and the Royal family. Prior to this, Helen had worked under Marcus Wareing and Gordon Ramsay at the prestigious Savoy Grill as a Patisserie Chef.
Several years later, whilst John was gaining experience at the French Laundry restaurant in California, Helen was running the kitchens at a private house in West London. Upon returning to the UK, John accepted a job at Michel Roux’s, The Waterside Inn, Bray as a Chef, where he stayed for over a year before joining Helen, this time to teach at Gordon Ramsays cookery school, Tante Marie in Surrey.
Whilst teaching, John discovered his passion for bread……..
2010, the Island Bakers was born!
I try to go every Saturday morning on my way to work and get at least a loaf, their donuts are to die for and they do pastries, cakes and croissants. I love it all, but my waistline can't always take it, good job at home there are lots of volunteers to help.
